MAN MADE POLLUTIONS |
Posted: December 10, 2019 |
The topic that I chose for this class is one that I am very passionate about, it is man-made pollution. I am not passionate about encouraging man-made pollution, but more along the lines of what we as a society can do to stop the problems we have made. Because of the harmful impacts humans have made the earth is suffering because of us. I want to delve into more of the negative effects of man-made pollution Man-made pollution can be incorporated into a variety of different disciplines. It can be showcased through art in the form of paintings or sculptures. Lots of artists use beach waste and make them into sculptures to deliver a message. Man-made pollution can be narrowed down to view it more on the side of biology. Biology can look at how pollution can affect ecosystems and how they have changed because of it. Man-made pollution can even be viewed through history by looking at how the amount of pollution has changed throughout the years. There are a multitude of ways that man-made pollution can be narrowed down and viewed from different perspectives. It is not just about simply the trash people throw in the ocean, or the amount of chemicals waste factories emit. Man-made pollution is so much more than its more popular examples. Man-made pollution can be defined in many different ways. It can be described through examples such as carbon dioxide emitted from power plants, or plastic waste. Man-made pollution can also be described as the harmful byproduct of human actions and creations. Pollution affects those around me, but mainly the environment and ecosystems. One very common type of pollution that affects people is air pollution. This type of pollution is most common in densely populated cities around the world. Cities like Hong Kong have such highly polluted air that smog is so visible and extreme causing people to wear face masks for protection. We do not think of air pollution as being so extreme in the United States but it is still hazardous. According to the American Lung Association nearly 134 million people in the U.S. are at risk of disease and premature death because of air pollution (Essick). Air pollution is just one of the many types of pollution caused by humans. There are countless other examples I could use to describe how man-made pollution influences those around me. I think this topic will work well with the future writing assignments I will have in this class. Because my topic is so widely conversed about it will be easy to find an article that I can use for a Rhetorical Analysis of an Argument. Man-made pollution also goes hand in hand with global warming which is a very hot topic right now, so I could also choose an article about that. The only assignment that I might have a little bit of a tough time on is the Topic in the Disciplines assignment. I think I will have a tough time because my topic is mostly science based so the most common types of views will be from disciplines in science and it might be difficult to find some from a discipline in the humanities or social sciences. The easiest assignment to use my topic in will most likely be the research essay. I have already done similar essays in the past. I also think research essays are the easiest types of essays to write because you are simply doing research on a certain topic and collecting facts. I could target a specific argument like how man-made pollution has caused the increase of global warming. Using the internet and the DCCC library databases will help a lot in finding information for my research. The multimodul interdisciplinary project is something that will definitely push me out of my comfort zone a little bit. I think it will be a challenge but I am sure that someone in the class will have chosen a topic that could work well with man-made pollution. There will probably be someone that will have a topic that also deals with the environment which will go well with my topic I normally do not like when I have to choose my own topic, but I am glad I chose man-made pollution because it is something that I have very strong opinions on. I also think that having a set topic on what to write about for different types of essays will challenge and hopefully make me a better and more experienced writer. Man-made pollution is the perfect topic for me because it is not too broad but is not too specific to where it will be hard to find lots of information on it.
